RESOURCES IN THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

BOOKS:
1. The Gatekeepers: Inside the College Admissions Process of a Premier College,

2. Cool Colleges for the Hyper-Intelligent, Late Blooming, and Just Plain Different by
Donald Asher. (Ten Speed Press, 2000) The author spent more than fourteen years of inquiry, surveying, visiting, writing, and speaking with college administrators.  He has included every accredited two-year and four-year institution in the U.S. and Canada.  This guide is not meant to be the primary guide in a counselor’s office.  It is meant to provide information not readily available everywhere.  The book includes a valuable array of “cool book alerts” and “cool web-sites”.  It is a great resource not only for the “different”
Information  but because it contains so many other useful resources.

(Templeton Foundation Press, 1999) A collection of approximately 550 programs and institutions found to develop character through volunteering, community projects, substance abuse prevention programs, superb guidance and monitoring throughout the college years, a curriculum dealing with ethical and character issues, and programs supportive of spiritual development.

(Fawcett Books. 1999) A book of lists such as “Colleges for the Shy Person” and “Colleges that Offer a Fast Track to a Career”.
