2010 Forensics Fest

 

On March 20, 2010, DePaul High School hosted the Paterson Catholic Forensic Grand Tournament, attended by seven Diocesan high schools.  Jennifer Fay ’11 won a 4^th place trophy for Prose & Poetry, and Camille Peterson’13 won a 2^nd place trophy in Extemporaneous making her eligible to represent the Paterson Diocese in May at the Catholic Nationals in Omaha, Nebraska.  All speakers gave fine performances:  Emily Lott’10 and Adriana Shubeck’12 in Drama, Erin Cullen’11 in Prose & Poetry, and Margaret Lamb’12 in Declamation. 

On October 25, seven VWA speakers performed at the Paterson Catholic Forensic League tournament hosted by Cardinal McCarrick HS. League schools include VWA, St. Elizabeth’s, Delbarton, De Paul, Immaculata, Mt. St. Mary, and Mary Help of Christians. Triple-A certificates were won by: Freshmen Moira McAuliffe in Original Oratory, Camille Petersen in Extemp, Catherine White in Declamation, and sophomore Adriana Shubeck in Drama. Congratulations to sophomore Margaret Lamb in Declamation and junior Jennifer Fay in Prose, whose performances were just one point shy of an award. Kudos to Team President senior Emily Lott, who reached the Silver Degree of Excellence for 55 public performances over a 4-year period

On May 6, our ninth annual FORENSICS FEST was held in Grace Ann Café, where parents, guests, and Filippini Sisters were entertained with the prize-winning speeches of our VWA Forensic Team. 

Emcees were President Hillery Brotschol and incoming President Emily Lott, who introduced the entertainers:  
Poetry-Samantha Paglinco:“Like Me,” and Melanie Ferrara “The Raven.”
Prose-Samantha Hyland “A Mother’s Touch”
Declamation-Maggie Lamb: “Mother Teresa’s Nobel Acceptance” and Erin Cullen: “Patrick Henry”
Drama:  Emily Lott: “Norma Rae” Adriana Shubeck: “Belle of Amherst,” Hillery Brotschol, “I Remember Mama.”

Trophies were awarded to the two highest seniors: Samantha Paglinco for 70 performances and Hillery Brotschol for 102 performances.

White Degree of Merit was awarded to new team members Melanie Ferrara, Maggie Lamb, Adriana Shubeck, and Samantha Hyland.

Next years Team Officers are: President Emily Lott, VP Elizabeth Manning, Treasurer Annie Kinman, and Secretary Erin Cullen.
