Print VOLUNTEER SHEET 2009
Description of Volunteer Positions
- Phone Solicitation: Help is needed throughout the year with the telephone chain, calling with reminders to return items to school, school closings, etc.
- Typist and/or Computer: This task involves helping out with filing, entering data for a school activity, or possibly in the library. This can usually be done on a flexible schedule, and can be a few hours per week over several weeks, or a few hours at one time.
- General Volunteering: This can be any job you might, or might not, think of. Parents are sometimes needed for a few hours for a miscellaneous task that needs to be completed, often associated with a project or event at Villa.
- Other: Please tell us of any special skills or talents that you might be able to share with VWA.
- Golf Outing: The VWA Booster Club sponsors a golf outing each year in May. Parents are needed to plan and implement this event. If you like golf, or just like planning social events, this is a job for you. Most of the work is handled by the planning committee, but extra hands are sometimes needed.
- Sports Banquet: A few parents are needed to assist with the planning and implementation of the end-of-year banquet honoring Villa’s athletes. Again, most of the work is handled by a committee, but extra parents are sometimes needed.
- Spring Musical – Sewing: If you’re an expert sewer who can whip up the latest fashions, then your skills are needed when new costumes are made. But if you can sew buttons and trims, you can help too. Just specify that your sewing skills are for light sewing.
- Spring Musical – Ironing: Just prior to production, and between performances, costumes need ironing. You may need to bring your iron with you.
- Spring Musical – Costume Assistance: Principal characters generally have some complete, quick costume changes. A few extra hands are required to help these characters to complete these changes during the show. You’ll need to attend dress rehearsals (held on weekends prior to the show) to learn what your character requires. Then you’re assigned to help during the actual performances. (These jobs are flex-scheduled so that you can attend a performance of the show.)
- Spring Musical: Carpentry, Art Work and Painting: If you can wield a hammer, screwdriver or paint brush (big or small), you can help with scenery for the play. Under Sister Mary Theresa’s direction, the scenery for the play is created anew each year. Evening hours are typical for this job.
- Spring Musicale – Hairdressing and Makeup: While the more complicated hairstyling and makeup is handled by a regular crew, mothers are needed to help with basic makeup and hair styling. As many characters wear wigs, we need moms who can French braid long hair to be pinned and netted. You’ll need to attend dress rehearsals (held on weekends prior to the show) to learn what your job requires. Some of these positions are flex-scheduled so that you need not be available for all performances.
- Fall Fashion Show: Much of the planning and implementation of this wonderful evening takes place in committee work that starts in the previous school year. However, about 150+ volunteers are needed throughout the day and evening of the show. Daytime volunteers help with decorating, gift transport and setup, and these volunteers complete their tasks in time to pick up their daughters at Villa. The bulk of the evening volunteers complete a one-hour shift at the event. These volunteers sell gift auction tickets, grand raffle tickets and 50/50 chances, chaperone the girls in preparation for the fashion show, place table favors and business ad booklets. Another task requiring volunteers is to break down and pack gift items once dinner starts. Still another crew helps with distributing gift baskets to the winners at evening’s end. And finally, several volunteers assist the decorating committee with removing decorations.
