Summer Program Descriptions

Each activity has an experienced instructor or coach and Villa Walsh Academy student counselors who make up a dedicated and caring staff.

STEM

Our campers will learn and apply STEM skills in a hands-on, fun, competitive atmosphere. We will learn about potential energy by building rubber band-powered cars, get a taste of robotics by building small hands-on kits, and work in teams to compete in a STEM tournament. This will not be your normal science class, so put your thinking caps on, and let's have some fun!

Adventure Camp

Are you looking to have fun and go on adventures? Then this is the right activity for you! Campers will break away from the mundane routines of daily life and immerse themselves in the wonders of the great outdoors. You will learn orienteering, hike to a waterfall, and more!

Drama

Summer fun happens on the stage at VWA! Our week-long drama camp will allow campers to learn and explore theatrical techniques, such as improvisation, story building, and character development, through drama games and exercises. The campers will learn dance, prop and set design, costume design, stage hair, make-up techniques, and audition procedures, and will also have headshots taken and displayed! Each week the campers will be introduced to a play they will work on and perform at the end of camp for families and friends. Different plays will be performed on different weeks, perfect for those who would like to participate in both weeks of Drama at the VWA Summer Camp!

Stagecraft

Stagecraft camp combines hands-on technical production with performance elements, including set design, prop design, lighting design, sound design, costume/hair/make-up, as well as performance management. The campers will work hand in hand with the performers, playing acting games, improvisation, and dance. The week will end with a performance for friends and families!

Dance

Dance Camp at VWA Summer Camp is for the camper passionate about music and movement. The girls will have 2-3 daily technique classes in the following techniques: ballet, contemporary, repertory, theater dance, jazz, hip hop, and Horton and Graham-based modern. The campers will also participate in Enrichment classes such as floor barre, strength training, stretching, dance history, and career-related lectures and workshops. At the end of the week, the girls will perform for their family and friends. The showcase will be created, produced, and directed primarily by the dancers themselves (with a bit of help from the dance instructor and VWA counselors!).

Art

The art instructor tailors activities according to each girl's ability level. Campers create various projects that allow them to enhance their creativity through the use of a variety of mediums. An art exhibit is held on Friday each week to display and share these creative projects.

Sports

The coaches plan sessions appropriate for the camper's ability through individual drills, partner work, and games in basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, track and field, softball and golf. Sport sessions offer a wide range of impactful experiences that encourage a love of the sport in a fun, summer camp atmosphere while learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.

*Please note: The golf camp will take place on VWA grounds. It will be structured for players of all ability levels to improve all facets of their golf game. Players should supply their own golf clubs, glove, golf balls, and tees.
